Detriment

There’s a haze in the distance
I hear you strumming another set of notes
who cares what I want out of you
you long for everything these days
my daze transcends that of an addict’s
into the murky waters of denial
and the inevitable sea of betrayal
laden with its countless victims
these walls are turning into a burnt red
you can’t stand the sight of me
your secrets pour out of you like tar
get out of my forsaken space
I’m running out of air in this truth.

Icy daggers in the eyes that I love.

Why, then, is my love unhappy?
Do I not listen to your anecdotes at the end of the day?
Am I not affectionate when you seek my comfort?
Would I ever refuse an invitation to walk in the summer light hand in hand?
Oh my love, please don’t fret with me.
I am mesmerized by you, don’t be hard on me.
You have my love, don’t you see?
How many others would want such a fickle thing!
You mustn’t think so waywardly.
I covet your sweet sentiments,
like a cold and iced libation on a scorching afternoon.
But perhaps even I will lose my thirst in time… ?
